A first look at Kim Jong-un's wife.

Ever since the unnamed woman was first spotted with Kim at a July 5 concert, speculation has been rampant that she might be either his spouse or younger sister. But today, North Korean media finally reported that her name was Ri Sol-ju, and she was his wife when the woman and Kim attended a ceremony to mark the completion of an amusement park in an islet in Pyongyang.

Many analysts say that one of Kim?s major weaknesses is that he succeeded his father as leader of North Korea at too early an age; he is believed to only be in his late 20s. And some experts say the North?s admission that Ms. Ri is Kim?s wife is aimed at dispelling doubts about his maturity and experience. They say that by portraying Kim as a married man, Pyongyang hopes the North Korean people, as well as the entire world, will stop seeing him as a youthful, untested leader.

All of that makes sense, but why has the North waited so long to make its announcement about Kim?s marital status?

The answer may be as simple as ?it was too risky.?

Kim?s grandfather, Kim Il-sung, the founder and first leader of North Korea, pulled off the first Communist hereditary power succession in modern times by installing his son Kim Jong-il as the second leader of North Korea. There was great doubt in people?s minds, including the minds of those in power in the North Korean regime, as to whether this would be possible to pull this off again.

Then, when Kim Jong-il was ready to pass power onto a successor, he managed to pull off another hereditary power succession, something that no one else was doing in the modern age. But it sparked demonstrations within North Korea and was considered a politically risky thing to do. In fact, two days before big celebrations were set for Kim Jong-il's last birthday, demonstrations broke out near the Chinese border, according to South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper.

The paper cited a North Korea source who said Kim Jong-un was ?viewed as bloodthirsty and mad.? The source also said, ?Almost everyone thinks he was behind the military attacks against ROKS Cheonan and an island under South Korean control, which led to restrictions on humanitarian aid from the South.? This has further worsened standards of living in the North. North Koreans are ready to do just about anything to stop the succession.?

In addition, there were reports of public burnings inside North Korea of photos of members of the Kim Jong-il family prompted by Kim Jong-il?s announcement that Kim Jong-un would be succeeding him as the next North Korean leader.

Under that light, Kim Jong-un wanted to keep his wife a secret until his hold on power was complete, say observers. If Kim Jong-un showed he had a wife, it might signal the prospect of yet another family dynasty, and the regime worried that people of North Korea might catch on and revolt. He?s essentially been hiding his woman from the public eye since he was named North Korea?s leader upon his dad?s death in December.

But when he sacked his army chief Ri Yong-ho last week and was finally installed as marshal, North Korea?s highest military position, his role as leader was finally solidified.

Now that his power has been consolidated and he is truly the supreme leader of North Korea, he can afford to tell the world and his people that he has a wife who will one day bear him a son who he can name as the next leader of North Korea ? whether North Koreans and the global community like it or not.??

Second Israeli dies in self-immolation welfare protest

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A second Israeli who set himself on fire in protest at economic difficulties has died of his injuries, the hospital treating him said on Wednesday.

Akiva Mafi, a 45-year-old, wheelchair-bound war veteran, doused his body in petrol and lit it at a bus station on July 30, after what friends described as a debilitating battle for welfare benefits.

He was the second such fatality after Moshe Silman, a debt-ridden member of a grassroots movement to lower the cost of living in Israel, self-immolated during a July 14 demonstration in Tel Aviv and died two weeks later.

Silman, 57, left a note accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's conservative government of "taking from the poor and giving to the rich". Local media later reported similar suicide bids among others suffering economic hardship.

Speaking on Israeli television after his cabinet approved a controversial new package of tax increases and spending cuts on Tuesday, Netanyahu described the self-immolations as tragic but cautioned against "drawing conclusions about the overall populace," which he argued had been spared deeper fiscal crises.

Please give me a bit of background about Joe Joe Bear.

The Joe Joe Bear Foundation was created in memory of Joseph David Ordaz who passed away on March 10, 2009 from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, he was 24.? Joe had a bone marrow transplant on July 17, 2008 that the doctors thought would be successful.? However on December 3, 2008 he found out the cancer was back.? Joe was undergoing treatment to prepare for a second transplant when he asked for a teddy bear to hold while he was alone so that he could feel like we were with him always.? Joe was so full of life and had a smile that would light up a room whenever he entered.? He was always in good spirits and always tried to make people smile, he is deeply missed.

The charity was created to keep Joe?s memory alive and to help others in the same situation.? It saddened him to hear the children crying at night in the hospital when they were alone and scared, he would say, ?he wished he could help comfort the sick children.????The Joe Joe Bear Foundation was founded in 2009 and is a 501c3 non-profit that give children with life threatening illnesses teddy bears to give them comfort when they are scared and alone.

In the past 3 years over 10,000 bears have been given to sick children in the hospital in the Houston and surrounding areas.? Hospitals receiving bears:

What are the requirements to volunteer?

To have a passion for the cause!? Every Volunteer has to hug a bear so they know what it feels like for a child receiving the bear. ?They all smile afterwards and say it makes them happy.

Amazon Cloud Player now matches iTunes purchases and CD rips

 

Amazon Cloud Player has been updated with a bunch of new features, including some hefty new licensing deals with Sony, EMI, Universal, and Warner to beef up their music selection for sale. There's also some new ways to make sure all of the music on your computer is in line with what's being stored in the cloud, namely that 250 of your songs (even ripped or purchased iTunes music) is automatically added from Amazon in 256 Kbps audio. 

• Amazon MP3 purchases — including music that customers purchased in the past — are automatically saved to Cloud Player, which means that customers have a secure backup copy of the music they buy from Amazon, free of charge.
• Amazon scans customers’ iTunes and Windows Media Player libraries and matches the songs on their computers to Amazon’s 20 million song catalog.  All matched songs – even music purchased from iTunes or ripped from CDs – are instantly made available in Cloud Player and are upgraded for free to high-quality 256 Kbps audio.  Music that customers have already uploaded to Cloud Player also will be upgraded.
• Any customer with a Kindle Fire, Android device, iPhone, iPod touch, or any web browser —and soon, a Roku streaming player or Sonos home entertainment system — can play their music anywhere.

Soon, Amazon Cloud users will be able to access their remote libraries through Sonos and Roku boxes too - a palatable option for real music junkies. Currently, Amazon Cloud offers 5 GB of free storage with plenty more available for $24.99 annually. Of course, any music you buy on Amazon doesn't count towards your storage limit, which is a nice touch. A significant change starting today is that Amazon Cloud Player and Cloud Drive will be separate storage bins and have their own subscription fees. That's not so great news for those that use the service for both tunes as well as documents, though they've lowered the Cloud Drive price to $10/year for 20 GB.
