Visitor health insurance for international travellers

My brother who was working in India got transferred to his company?s US branch. The assignment was a long term one. He had his insurance covered by his company. Our society had always pampered men so much that they always need someone, preferably a lady to set everything right for them. Being his sister, I decided to assist him in setting up the place and then come back. It is during this journey, I fully understood the importance of possessing a visitor health insurance.

As soon as my brother got his visa stamping, he arranged for mine. We started packing our bags. The list of items that I prepared was the longest one. Everbody who saw our baggages wondered whether we were shifting to US permanently. I had to very hardly convince that we were not. Atleast I was not, since my husband was based in India. We took some spice powders, mixer, grinder and many such things. My brother was very apprehensive about the luggage as he feared that we would cross the weight limit set by the airlines. After so much of arguments and discussion, we decided to reduce the weight by removing some of the items. We re-packed the luggage. After so much of tensions in packing and getting ready, we reached the airport. We checked in our heavy baggages and went for security check with our hand luggage. A problem rose when our hand luggage was screened. While re-packing, I had carelessly placed coconut cutter knife in my hand baggage. The security officer told me that I was not supposed to carry it for security reasons. Unwillingly, I parted with my coconut cutter and boarded the flight.

After long hours of travel, we reached our destination and proceeded to the apartment arranged by my brother?s colleagues. Though small, it was a fine place. We quickly munched whatever snacks we carried with us and took rest. I had decided to stay with him for a month so that I can also look around some places and then leave. I arranged the house during the next four days. Days kept passing and suddenly I was not feeling good during mornings. I had morning sickness and went to the doctor. He directed me to get some tests performed and confirmed my pregnancy. I thought that this whole procedure would cost me lesser than $50. But I was shocked to see the bill amount as it crossed $500.

Luckily I had my visitor health insurance which saved me a lot of financial trouble. It is really a friend in need when you stay in a foreign country. This insurance protects the insured against any unexpected medical expenses during an international travel. It offers coverage for inpatient hospital admission, doctor visit, surgery and prescribed drug expenses.
