WHNT DOT COM

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) ? ?Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle says millions of dollars from ?capital?improvements?funds will be directed to pay for Grissom and Johnson High School buildings.

Both schools are being sold by the Huntsville School district and will both be rebuilt at other sites in the next few years.

The city plans on turning the Johnson High School campus into a public safety training facility while Grissom will serve as a?recreation?center, community?theater,?possibly a new library and a south police station.

?We have made education our top priority and yes some capital improvement projects may be pushed back in order to pay for buying these buildings but the benefits to the community will be felt for decades,? Mayor Battle told WHNT News 19.
